Douglas County Sheriff Tim Pounds explained that deputies were called to the scene in response to a burglary. According to their investigation, Horton had entered the home when the homeowner, acting in self-defense, fired at him. Horton was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators believe the homeowner was justified in using their firearm, citing self-defense as the main factor.
