LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY — Authorities in southern Indiana reported that a woman defended her husband by shooting a man who had threatened him with a firearm.
Indiana State Police released a statement detailing an event that occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Monday on Organ Springs Road in Salem. Responding to a 911 call, officers discovered Michael Chastain, 45, injured from a gunshot in the front yard. He was later declared deceased at Saint Vincent Hospital in Salem.
It was revealed through the investigation that Chastain had driven into the yard, confronted the male homeowner, and held him at gunpoint. Witnessing the peril her husband was in, the woman reacted by using her own firearm to shoot Chastain.
The ongoing investigation will, in time, be handed to the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office, as mentioned in the statement.
Indiana State Police sources informed WDRB News about Chastain’s local notoriety and past criminal involvements. Additionally, it was highlighted that he previously dated the daughter of the homeowner, although she doesn’t reside there anymore, leading to questions about his motives for the attack.
