Baltimore Deadly Shooting Labelled Self-Defense, No Charges Filed

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND — Baltimore Police have concluded that a February 7 shooting, which resulted in the death of 42-year-old Joseph Garrison, was an act of self-defense during an attempted robbery.

The 24-year-old victim, whose identity has been withheld, used a licensed firearm to defend himself against Garrison, according to The Baltimore Sun.

Following the incident on Ridgecroft Road in the Waltherson neighborhood of Northeast Baltimore, the shooter remained at the scene and was temporarily taken into custody.

Garrison was later pronounced dead at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

As a result of the investigation, the case has been excluded from the city’s homicide statistics.
