Man Shot After Altercation In Topeka May Have Been Self-Defense

TOPEKA, KANSAS – A man is dead after a shooting in Southwest Topeka, according to the Topeka Police Department. The shooting took place on Friday, Nov 11 around 5:30pm. This occurred near the corner of 29th and Villa West Drive in Topeka.

Police say two men got into an altercation in the street. One of the men pulled a gun and shot the other. Upon arrival, officers located a man with a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Police say that all involved parties have been located, identified, and interviewed. The investigation is ongoing as officers and detectives look into the circumstances regarding the shooting. There is no threat to the public, according to officials.

Police also said upon completion of the case, it will be sent to the DA’s office with the possibility of self-defense consideration in this incident.
