BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA — Authorities apprehended a man who allegedly killed one sister and seriously injured another during a family gathering.

Gerald McDowell is accused of shooting his 18-year-old sister, Kevineisha McDowell, in the head and his 27-year-old sister, Anntaesha McDowell, multiple times in the torso, according to WBRZ.

Anntaesha was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The incident occurred around 10 p.m. near the intersection of Geronimo Street and Ozark Street, where family members had convened for a “celebration of life event.”

The gathering was organized to raise funds for the funeral of their brother, Kevin Dunn Jr., who had been shot and killed the previous week.

Following the shooting, the suspect fled the scene and evaded arrest for several days.

Kevineisha had recently given birth two months prior, while Anntaesha, a mother of three, had been caring for her seven siblings since their mother’s death in 2016. According to BR Proud, McDowell will be held without bond until a sanity hearing can take place.
