Teen Home Invasion Suspect Shot By Elderly Homeowner

AKRON, OHIO — A 16-year-old burglary suspect, attempting to commit a home invasion, was shot by a 74-year-old homeowner. The shooting occurred early on the morning of March 29th at a residence in the 700 block of Johnson Street in Akron.

Police were notified at around 7:26 am of the incident at the Johnson Street residence, located east of state Route 8 and Lumiere Street and west of Hammel Street. Police located the suspect inside the residence with multiple gunshot wounds. Police treated the suspect until he was transported to Akron Children’s Hospital. The suspect was last listed in stable condition. Police stated that the suspect was expected to fully recover and potentially be released by the weekend.

Police said that the homeowner confronted the suspect after he had forced his way into the elderly homeowner’s residence. The homeowner fired on the suspect who was struck several times. No one else was injured in the encounter.

An investigation is still pending at this time and no charges have been filed in the case.
