Author Salman Rushdie Stabbed In The Neck While On Stage Before Speech

Author Salman Rushdie was set to give a speech at The Chautauqua Institution near Buffalo, NY this morning when he was attacked by a man while on stage. The man reportedly began punching Rushdie and was stabbing him in the neck area.

“Rushdie suffered an apparent stab wound to the neck, and was transported by helicopter to an area hospital,” a press release said. “His condition is not yet known. The interviewer suffered a minor head injury. A State Trooper assigned to the event immediately took the suspect into custody. The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.”

Video posted to social media appears to show the immediate aftermath of the attack.

A motive for the attack has not been released. The suspect was taken into custody immediately after by a State Trooper who was assigned to the event.
