FONTANA, CALIFORNIA — A man died after police say he got into a shootout with an armed homeowner, who was on the phone with a 911 operator.

Around 11 p.m., the homeowner heard someone breaking into the home and grabbed his gun while calling 911. While on the phone with the 911 operator, the intruder and the homeowner exchanged gunfire. The intruder was shot in the upper torso, leading to him being pronounced dead at the scene.

The intruder, described as a Hispanic man in his late 20’s or early 30’s, had been found dead on the ground holding a gun, wearing a mask and gloves.
