ST PETE, FLORIDA — A young woman was shot and killed on what was supposed to be a fun night on the town.

The St. Petersburg Police Department said an argument took place within a large crowd of people gathered on 16th Street South before shots rang out. The shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. in front of Dread Pros & More salon.

The woman, 23-year-old Arnieceia Milton, was not the intended target.

The person or people responsible are being sought by police. There is no word as to whether or not this was a self-defense shooting.

Regardless, it’s a sad reminder that anyone can be caught up in a dangerous situation without doing anything to contribute, other than living their lives.

It also reminds us that, when firing your gun for any reason, you must know what is behind the threat. This is assuming that a legal use of a firearm is occurring, as criminals don’t usually care who is caught in their rampage.

Stay safe, keep yourself aware of what is happening around you, and be prepared to get to a safe place. Or fight back.
