Rioters, Looters Would Lose Unemployment Benefits Under New Bill

Published

This isn’t a topic that we’d typically cover, but it’s fair game at the moment due to all of the riots that we have been covering, mostly related to the topic of self-defense.

Indiana Rep. Jim Banks introduced the Support Peaceful Protests Act, and if passed, will not be liked by those who are causing destruction and stealing property during the unrest.

Banks — who was deployed to Afghanistan as a Supply Corps officer with the US Navy Reserve — wants to strip anyone convicted of federal offenses during protests of extra unemployment from the CARES Act helping jobless Americans during the coronavirus pandemic.

His measure would also hold those convicted financially liable for the cost of law enforcement “in an amount that is equal to the cost of such policing activity,” the bill says.
