Irresponsible Gun Owner Leaves Gun Behind In Store Shopping Cart

LAKEVIEW, OHIO — A concealed carry permit holder was charged with failure to secure a dangerous ordnance after he left his firearm behind in a store along with his wallet and concealed carry permit.

Carl M. Colwell, 61, allegedly left a black case in a store shopping cart that contained a loaded handgun. Store employees also found a wallet that included Colwell’s drivers license and concealed carry permit.

Police went to his home and issued him a summons. His handgun was taken for evidence and his permit was sent to it’s county of origin.

Folks, this is what we’ve been talking about for years now. It takes just one person to set off a chain of events that sparks new laws against concealed carry. I’m not saying that it will happen in this case –it likely won’t– but it’s a sobering reminder of how responsible we need to be. Leaving a loaded firearm in a shopping cart is inexcusable. Period.

If you can’t handle the responsibility, you need to stop carrying a firearm. It’s really as simple as that.
