[HOLSTER REVIEW] BLACKHAWK! Serpa Sportster Holster

I think most will agree, Blackhawk makes some awesome gear.  Not only for military and law enforcement but suitable for your everyday firearm and tactical gear enthusiast.  One particular piece of equipment I own is the Serpa Sportster Holster.  One of the main reasons I like this holster so much is its versatility.  When purchased, the holster includes a paddle rig as well as an interchangeable belt loop rig.

However — as is common with most Blackhawk gear — there are a variety of additional accessories available for purchase to increase the holsters possible uses.  These can include vest rigs and shoulder harness rigs.

Let’s get into the Sportster Holster.

Serpa Sportster Holster Is Easy To Adjust

It’s possible to adjust the draw angle of this holster to suit your personal needs.  The injection molded polymer is hardened and built to last through any of the rigors and rough handling I can put it through.  The holster comes standard with the auto-lock feature and adjustable retention. Personally, I prefer the paddle platform for easy placement and removal without the hassle of removing my belt.  The options for securing this holster to my body are endless.

Another great feature to add to the list is affordability.

Blackhawk currently lists this particular holster at the price of $34.95.  For what you’re getting with the holster, the price is reasonable and affordable. You don’t have to put a dent in your wallet or search the couch cushions to acquire a versatile and multi-function holster.

Serpa Sportster Fits Into Everyday Carry Life

As far as uses are concerned, this holster can be suitable for a day at the range or everyday carry.  Although some may frown upon the use of an OWB holster for concealed carry, I know from personal experience it’s possible.

The Serpa’s design keeps it close to the body and allows effective concealment beneath a jacket, windbreaker, or pull-over hoodie.  In my opinion, this makes the holster ideal for colder weather.

If you’re anything like me, I dress in layers during frigid temperatures. This type of set up lets you dress for the weather without losing quick access to the firearm or dealing with the hassle of peeling away several layers of clothing in the process.

  • Serpa Sportster works well with an active lifestyle.

I enjoy the auto-lock retention feature.  Upon holstering my firearm, I hear an audible click as the firearm is secured within the holster.  From that point, I made my best effort to free the firearm from the holster with tugs, pulls, side-straddle-hops and a whole assortment of manual labor.  I found the holster retains the firearm without so much as a rattle.

If you’re in a profession where you’re constantly moving around and working, this holster won’t fail to keep your sidearm firmly in place until needed.

  • The retention button is easy to operate.

When drawing, it’s a simple task to press the retention button.  Then I can draw the firearm from the holster.

I will note it’s important to keep the finger trigger fully extended while drawing to avoid entering the trigger well prematurely.  Always remember to maintain proper trigger discipline.

Without a doubt, the Serpa holster fits a variety of needs: rugged durability, tight retention, and cold weather concealed OWB.  It’s easily interchangeable with whatever holster system you enjoy. The price and options for use alone make this holster a worthwhile investment if you favor a retention holster. I’ve owned mine for years. I’ve used it for a reliable holster while at the shooting range. I’ve worn it concealed under my jacket during winter months. I’ve worn it around the house for daily home carry. The holster is comfortable and secure for whatever bending, moving and sitting you might do throughout the day.  And with the retention system, I’m not concerned with the firearm freeing itself from the holster.  I’ve taken this holster hiking and worn it while chopping wood.  I have yet to encounter a negative issue regarding it.

If you’re an active person that desires keeping their weapon on-hand and securely holstered while going about your daily activities, investing in the Blackhawk Serpa Sportster Holster is a wise choice.
