An armed 39-year-old man was shot during an armed robbery attempt at a Wauwatosa gas station. Police are investigating the incident and seeking additional information from the public.

WAUWATOSA, WI (2-minute read) — In the early hours of Friday, July 26, a 39-year-old man found himself in a dangerous situation while pumping gas at a station near Mayfair and Capitol in Wauwatosa. At around 3 a.m., he was approached by five suspects attempting to steal his vehicle, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

A nearby Wauwatosa police officer, alerted by the sound of gunshots, spotted a white sedan speeding away from the scene. The officer initiated a pursuit, which ended in a minor collision at N. 110 Street and W. Congress Street, causing the suspects to abandon the vehicle and flee on foot.

While this pursuit was unfolding, the intended victim, who had managed to call 911, reported that he had been shot during the attempted robbery. He explained that he had been confronted by multiple individuals, at least one of whom was armed. In self-defense, he used his firearm, resulting in a shootout before the suspects escaped.

The intended victim was quickly attended to by the Wauwatosa Fire Department and transported to the hospital, where he remains in serious condition. It is currently unclear if any of the suspects were injured in the exchange.

This incident underscores the critical importance of community vigilance and responsible firearm ownership. Proper training and awareness can help individuals protect themselves while minimizing risks to others. Communities must collaborate to enhance safety by promptly reporting suspicious activities and providing crucial evidence to law enforcement.
