ALBUQUERQUE, NM (2-minute read) – Albuquerque Police Department (APD) is currently investigating two separate fatal shootings that occurred late Friday and early Saturday. One of the incidents, involving an 18-year-old male who shot his mother’s ex-boyfriend in an apparent act of self-defense, is being treated as a justifiable homicide.
According to APD spokesperson Franchesca Perdue, the incident occurred at The Ridge apartments near Tramway and Copper NE. The young man reportedly acted in self-defense when the armed ex-boyfriend threatened to kill his family members. The ex-boyfriend was found deceased at the scene, and the son was detained for questioning to clarify the circumstances leading to the shooting.
In a separate incident on Friday night, a double shooting was reported at the Cinnamon Tree Apartments on Central SE. APD spokesperson Gilbert Gallegos stated that one man was pronounced dead at the location, while a woman received hospital treatment. The situation escalated when an individual barricaded themselves in an apartment, prompting intervention from SWAT and crisis negotiators. Although the standoff concluded with no one found inside the apartment, the investigation continues.
