GARNER, NORTH CAROLINA — The Garner Police Department has chosen not to press charges in a fatal shooting incident that occurred in a Walmart parking lot. The incident took place on January 23 at the Walmart located at 4500 Fayetteville Road.
According to the police report, Colton Valdez, 29, was involved in a confrontation and subsequently displayed what appeared to be a firearm. In response, another individual, whose identity has not been disclosed, shot Valdez. Valdez succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that Valdez’s weapon was actually a BB gun, closely resembling a real handgun. After a comprehensive investigation and discussions with the Wake County District Attorney’s Office, authorities concluded that the shooter acted within legal bounds and opted not to file any charges.
