CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — A reported break-in turned fatal when the homeowner defended himself by shooting the intruder, who later succumbed to his injuries. The incident took place on Monday afternoon in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood, North Meade Avenue.

The deceased, identified as 39-year-old Alexis Quiles from Chicago, died the following afternoon according to official reports. Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots before the police arrived at the scene. The 26-year-old homeowner had allegedly encountered Quiles entering his home without consent and, in what appears to be an act of self-defense, shot him twice in the upper body.

Quiles attempted to escape but was discovered in proximity to the scene, evidently wounded, and was rushed to the Loyola Hospital. The residence, inhabited by a family with children, thankfully did not report any other injuries during this distressing event.

The local police and detectives are actively investigating the matter, working to ascertain the precise details of the incident and considering potential charges. The community remains shaken as they come to terms with the violent incident in their neighborhood.
