CASSOPOLIS, MICHIGAN — A 35-year-old man, Cordeleus Martin, was charged with attempting to rob a Marathon gas station in Cassopolis on July 27.
Martin brandished a knife at the clerk, but a customer with a legal concealed handgun intervened, shooting Martin.
He now faces charges including Armed Robbery, Assault with intent to Rob While Armed, Felonious Assault, and is also identified as a Habitual Offender on his fourth offense.
After reviewing witness accounts and surveillance footage, the county’s Prosecutor’s Office received the case. Cass County Prosecutor Victor Fitz declared on Tuesday that the customer acted lawfully and won’t face charges.
Martin’s initial court hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
