Burglary Suspect And Victim Both Wounded In Shootout, More Arrested

BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA — Two men were involved in a shootout during an attempted burglary at a residence in central Bakersfield, California on February 23, 2023, according to KBAK.

The victim, who arrived home and found several unknown men running out from his home towards a parked vehicle in his driveway, was shot at by one of the suspects carrying a gun while he was inside his car.

The victim, a licensed concealed carry permit holder, returned fire, resulting in a non-life-threatening injury. The suspects managed to escape in the suspect’s vehicle.

The police found one suspect, 43-year-old Melvin Carter of Palmdale, after he was found at the hospital with a gunshot injury.

Carter is reportedly in serious but stable condition.

After investigating the incident, police arrested 36-year-old Frederick Minnoy III of Bakersfield for his involvement in the attempted burglary and shooting.

Minnoy was booked at Kern County Jail for attempted murder, conspiracy, and attempted residential burglary, according to KBAK. The victim and the suspects were still in the hospital for treatment of their injuries at the time of KBAK’s report.
