Why We Carry: FL Man Beaten To Death With Tire Iron In Random Attack

CLEARWATER, FLORIDA — Police say a man was beaten to the point of being killed in a random attack early Friday morning.

At 12:37 a.m. Clearwater Police Department received a 911 call that reported a person down. When police arrived, they found 49-year-old Jeffrey M. Chapman deceased.

The following day, police identified Jermaine Bennett as the suspect in the case, and he was taken into custody and admitted to the crime. A second suspect is being sought in connection with the murder.

Bennett admitted to police that he used a tire iron in the attack, and that it was a random and unprovoked attack.
