Father Hailed As Hero After Holding Home Intruder At Gunpoint

WAYNE COUNTY, WEST VIRGINIA – A former high school teacher named Mike Ross held another man named Roy Ward at gunpoint after Ward attempted to break into multiple homes.

Around 9 a.m. on Rice Avenue in Prichard, Katelyn Kelly witnessed Ward attempting to open her car door, and then saw him walking towards her home. Kelly moved her daughter to her room and when Ward attempted to enter the home, he was jumped on by the family dog.

Ward then went across the street and opened the door to an outbuilding. Kelly called the police and her neighbor to notify them of Ward. Ross got a call that Ward was heading towards his daughter’s house, where his wife was babysitting their grandchildren as his daughter was at a doctors appointment.

Ross grabbed his pistol and went to his daughter’s house to protect his grandkids and wife.

“That made it even more special to me,” he said. “They’re not going to bother my grandbabies for sure.”

Ross spotted Ward attempting to get into his daughter’s house through the basement. Ross at this time told Ward to get on the ground.

Ross held ward at gunpoint for a half hour until the West Virginia state police came and arrested Ward.

““I, for one, am not going to stand around and let thugs and drugs take over our community,” Ross said.
