RUSK COUNTY, TEXAS – A home invasion sparked a gunfight that left the suspect dead and a male and female occupant with gunshot wounds, according to the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office. A press release states that RCSO deputies responded to 911 call reporting gunshots at a home in the 10000 block of Main Street in New London on Sunday.

Upon arrival, they located three gunshot victims – two men and a woman. The men were transported to a Tyler hospital by helicopter, and the woman was taken to a Tyler hospital by ambulance.

RCSO stated that “The preliminary investigation revealed that an armed male entered the residence without consent. This woke up the other male who lives at this address. Words were exchanged between the two males, and both males began shooting at one another.”

Both men suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and the woman was also shot at least once. The intruder later succumbed to his injuries.

The names of the suspect and occupants were not released, nor did officials indicate whether the intruder and the occupants knew each other. There was also not further information available regarding the medical condition of the occupants who survived the encounter.

With regards to any charges that may be filed, the Sheriff’s office said, “The District Attorney’s Office was notified, and they will assist with presenting the case to the Grand Jury. No other information will be released until a grand jury has convened to review the case.”
