GOLDSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA — Two armed and masked men broke into a home around 1 a.m. on February 13th and demanded money, and then shot a 73-year-old woman in the leg. Police say that a 12-year-old boy, who was also at the home, shot and killed one of the armed intruders.
When police arrived, they found the woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Roughly a block away from the scene, police found another person who had been shot, identified as 19-year-old Khalil Herring. Herring, the suspect shot by the boy, was taken to the same hospital where he died from his injuries.
Police did not specify the relationship between the woman and the boy, but noted that the boy was a resident at the address.
No charges are expected to be filed against the boy.
