NBC Couples Gun Violence With Self-Defense Shooting

Published

A shooting happened in Philadelphia where a store owner shot and killed a man in his 20’s who tried to rob him, according to police.

Police said a man in his 20’s tried to rob a store on the 2700 block of Germantown Avenue at 4:25 p.m. Saturday. The store owner then pulled out a gun and opened fire, shooting the man five times.

After the incident, the article mentions that the armed store owner was taken into custody for questioning. We couldn’t find any updates to this story, so we assume that no charges were filed against the store owner.

This sounds like a case of lawful self-defense, yet it was coupled with gun violence in the article, ending with;

The shooting was one of three on Saturday in Philadelphia.

There are additional resources for people or communities that have endured gun violence. Further information can be found here.

The other two shootings that were mentioned were downright wrong. The first describes a man walking down the street, and being shot in the neck and shoulder by an armed attacker.

The second describes two men getting into an argument over a double-parked car. At some point, one of them men pulls out a gun and shoots the other three times in the back.

Neither of the two shootings directly above have anything to do with self-defense, yet are coupled with a legitimate self-defensive shooting where an armed store owner defends himself against a man trying to rob him.

Yet, NBC wants to tie these three incidents together to make the gun criminal problem in Philadelphia seem that much worse.

We cover self-defense shootings every day, and they should never be coupled with criminal activity like in this situation. Push the agenda further, will ya?
