Why We Carry: Man Arrested After Stabbing Woman With Syringe Filled With Semen

Published

As sick, bizarre and unreal as this sounds, it happened in Maryland last month outside a grocery store.

There are a lot of sick people in this world, and this predator is one of them.

Thomas Bryon Stemen, 51, was arrested Tuesday and charged with first and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment after police allege he attacked a woman outside a grocery store on February 18, the Anne Arundel County Police Department said in a news release.

Police were called to a parking lot on 5570 Shady Side Rd. in Churton at around 7 p.m. over reports that an adult female had been assaulted and poked by what appeared to be a syringe.

Police would later find out that the syringe was filled with semen.

The victim told reporters that she at first believed she was burned by a cigarette. When she confronted the suspect, she said his reply was “It felt like a bee sting didn’t it?”

Video surveillance shows the woman reacting to the assault, and then Stemen walking towards her as she moved away.

While this may not have been a self-defense situation, because the victim was unsure of what happened at the time, it’s still an important reminder to be aware of our surroundings at all times. Letting people get into close proximity to you can be dangerous, and I always try to stay alert with who is close by and what they’re doing.

But if she did know what had happened and was carrying a firearm, then it’s absolutely justified with drawing a firearm.

Police believe there could be more victims.
