Father Shoots Son After Son Stabbed Him In The Head

FORT WORTH, TEXAS — They say everything is bigger in Texas, and I guess that includes father and son squabbles. Police described this as a “family violence event” – whatever that is. Nonetheless, it is a pretty gruesome and scary event that happened, resulting in dad having to shoot his own son.

A father shot his son in the arm early Thursday morning after the son stabbed him in the head and tried to shoot him with a shotgun, police said.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting at a residence in the 8600 block of Funtier Court around 4:55 a.m. Thursday, police said. The caller had stated he shot his son, according to a police call log.

It’s unclear what led to the son stabbing his father and trying to shoot him. But police said the incident occurred “during a family violence event.”

The father responded by securing his handgun and firing a round into his son’s arm, police said.

The good news is that the shot was not fatal. It appears that after taking a round in the arm from dad, the son decided to call uncle on the whole thing. It is hard to fault the dad for shooting to wound in this case. We all know you should never shoot to wound, but when you are firing at your own child it seems like that is a reasonable exception to the rule.

Other than that, it seems like dad did everything else correctly. After shooting his son in the arm, he called 911 to get help immediately. He even admitted to the operator that he was the one responsible for shooting his son. He waited for police to arrive and cooperated fully.

Police haven’t released any details as to what the fight was about, but they don’t seem to be pressing any charges against dad. A self defense case is pretty solid when you’ve been stabbed in the head by your attacker. Hopefully when this is all over, both father and son can reconcile and move on with their lives.
