WHY WE CARRY: Insane Man Shoots Mother And Her Children During Road Rage Incident

DENVER, COLORADO — A 23-year-old man was taken into custody and arrested a few hours after shooting a mother and her children, killing one of them. The incident seems to have stemmed from a case of road rage, and the suspect immediately cried ‘mental health issues’ to police when apprehended.

Local media reports;

According to the warrant, [Jeremy] Webster got into an argument with 41-year-old Megan Bigelow stemming from “some sort of road rage incident.” Webster followed Bigelow in his car to an office complex, where Bigelow and her three children — 8, 12 and 13 — exited the car and got into a further argument, the warrant shows.

Webster allegedly shot Bigelow and then targeted the children, the warrant says. The 13-year-old boy was struck and fell to the ground and Webster allegedly stood over the boy and shot him again. The child was killed.

The suspect did not know any of the victims prior to this incident.

A witness was also shot by Webster after they made eye contact. That man was shot in the arm and was able to escape.

Webster waived his Miranda Rights and told police;

“Jeremy stated that he has mental health issues and just started a new prescribed medication today,” according to the affidavit.

The warrant states Webster admitted to shooting the mother, her kids and the onlooker.

It is not clear whether Webster legally owned the gun or not, or if he had a permit to carry. One media source noted that he applied for and received a license to work in the medical marijuana field in Colorado.

Webster did not appear to have any arrests in Colorado and had applied for and received a state license in 2016 to work in the marijuana field. The document provided to CBS4 was heavily redacted, and it is impossible to discern how Webster responded to questions about his past history. But he passed the background check and did received a license to work in the marijuana industry.

In any event, we can’t always control who has a firearm and what they plan to do with it. That’s why we promote responsible and legal concealed carry, so that people are better prepared for situations such as this. It’s heartbreaking to see a young teenager lose his life because of the actions of one man who took road rage to a new level. This family will never be the same, and it’s all because of the actions of one individual.
