The history of firearms has been a rocky one, especially since the invention of the radio and television. You’ve heard the saying “more guns equals more crime”. How about, “more guns equals LESS crime”? First, let’s ask the important question; who is in possession of these guns? More guns would equal more crime if they were in the hands of criminals. Now, put more guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens and watch the tables turn.

Pretend for a  moment that you are a career criminal that earns his or her living by breaking laws; robbery, car jackings, etc. You have a gun that you acquired illegally and you use it to get things done. Your workplace is the world at large, and your victims are everyday citizens. Would it make your job easier if 0% of your victims carried a firearm, or 50%? We realize this is a silly question because if you were a criminal, you would enjoy having an unarmed victim. We feel the need to make this point though, because it’s an important one.

Criminals do not want to be confronted with equal force. It ruins their day and makes their job difficult, if not impossible to complete.

“Cowboys will roam again and blood will fill the streets.”

We hear this type of statement a lot and completely disagree. An estimated 10 Million Americans carry a concealed firearm. There is a very real chance that each day, you pass by a citizen with a concealed firearm and will never know it. Should you be afraid? Absolutely not. We aren’t aware that they’re even there because they’re only for dire emergencies. The law-abiding do not walk into gas stations to rob them. The law-abiding do not point their gun at you while demanding your wallet.

We will sometimes see news reports of self-defense claims that are under scrutiny, and that is something that will always come with the ownership of firearms. Whether their actions were justified or not are to be determined by a jury of their peers; not us. If an act of self-defense is found to be unjustified, we simply cannot throw them into the pool of every single gun owner in America. Some 99% of American gun owners killed no one yesterday.
