According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, the tragic event occurred on Friday, with seven civilians shot, two of whom succumbed to their injuries. An Arkansas State Police officer also sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the altercation.

The Arkansas State Police reported that the suspect, who was critically injured after being shot by officers, has been apprehended. This incident prompted a swift response from law enforcement, with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office initially called to support the Dallas County authorities.
Dallas County Sheriff Mike Knoedel confirmed that the situation has been “contained,” offering some relief to the community. In the wake of the shooting, Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders expressed her sorrow and support for those affected.

“I have been briefed on the tragic shooting in Fordyce, and I’m in constant contact with State Police at the scene,” Gov. Sanders said. “I am thankful to law enforcement and first responders for their quick and heroic action to save lives. My prayers are with the victims and all those impacted by this horrific incident.”
Based on the video floating around social media, it would seem that the suspect was using a shotgun during the attack.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have closed a section of Highway 79-B and 4th Street due to the incident. The Arkansas State Police have scheduled a briefing at 3:30 p.m. at the Relyance Bank parking lot on 4th Street in Fordyce to provide further details on the case.
