AUSTIN, TEXAS — A series of shootings across central Texas, including Austin and near San Antonio, resulted in several fatalities and injuries on Tuesday. The suspect, who has not been publicly identified, was apprehended and faces capital murder charges.

Austin Police Chief Robin Henderson, in a press briefing, detailed the events that began around 10:43 a.m. near Northeast Early College High School, where a school district officer was shot and injured. Subsequent shootings in Austin occurred around 11:59 a.m., resulting in a double homicide, and later in the afternoon, a cyclist was injured in a shooting.

In the evening, a 911 call led officers to a burglary at Austral Loop. Confronting the suspect, an exchange of gunfire ensued, leaving an officer with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect fled, leading to a high-speed chase and eventual capture. Inside the home, two more victims were discovered.

Separately, Bexar County authorities are investigating a link between these incidents and a double homicide in San Antonio, where two people in their 50s were found dead. This connection was suggested by Austin law enforcement based on potential ties to the suspect. Sheriff Javier Salazar described the San Antonio scene as “grisly” and noted it likely occurred before the Austin attacks.

The suspect, around 30 years old, has been charged with capital murder and other offenses, including an outstanding assault warrant. The nature of his relationship to the victims remains unclear.
