Ulysses Police Department responded promptly to a notification from USD 214 officials, who reported the presence of a firearm in the school.

The event led to a swift intervention, where the staff member was located, and after a thorough search, a firearm was indeed recovered. The involved staff member has since been detained, and will no longer be allowed back on school property, and normal routines resumed after the building was cleared.

This incident is separate from a previous threat, and an investigation is underway for both instances. Burton assured that more details would be released as the investigation progresses.
