Armed Intruders Shot, Arrested After Armed Homeowner Fights Back

COLUMBUS, OHIO — Late Saturday, an attempted home invasion in the Milo-Grogan neighborhood ended with one suspect shot and two arrested, according to Columbus Police. Responding to reports of a break-in and shooting on the 800 block of East 4th Avenue, officers discovered a confrontation had taken place involving two men, Dante Shields and Chase Fetherolf, both 24.

Allegedly, Shields and Fetherolf, who had a dispute with a resident of the house, arrived armed and refused to depart when confronted by the homeowner. Their persistent threats forced the resident to retreat inside. Court records suggest the suspects then forced entry, leading to a scuffle involving Fetherolf and the resident’s brother, during which Fetherolf dropped his weapon.

The resident then brandished a handgun, ordering the pair to leave. The suspects exited but not before forcibly breaking down the front door. The resident fired at the intruders, hitting Fetherolf in the hip. He was later treated at Grant Medical Center and is expected to recover.

Police found three handguns at the scene. Shields and Fetherolf face charges of aggravated burglary.
