Woman Shoots Husband In Self-Defense After Being Assaulted

LAGRANGE, GEORGIA – A woman, who was being assaulted by her husband, was able to free herself and shoot him in self defense.

On Friday, August 19, 2022, around 9:40pm, Officers from the LaGrange Police Department responded to a call regarding a person being shot at 106 Loch Court.

Upon arriving to the scene, officers found Charles Anthony Shields with a gunshot wound to the upper body. He was immediately transported to a trauma center for treatment.

The Criminal Investigation Unit responded and took over the investigation. Their investigation revealed that Charles assaulted his wife, Queneshia Shields, during an altercation at their home.

During the physical assault, Queneshia was able to separate herself from Charles. She then retrieved a gun and shot him once in the torso. She was then able to flee that location and contact authorities.

LaGrange police stated that warrants have been issued for the arrest of Charles Anthony Shields for a variety of offenses. They are: False Imprisonment, Battery, Criminal Damage to Property, Theft by Taking, and Interference with a 911 Call. All of these offenses are charged as violations of the Family Violence Act.

Charles Anthony Shields already had outstanding warrants for his arrest at the time of this incident for Failure to Appear (Superior Court Troup County), Probation Violation (Clayton County) and Probation Violation (Fulton County). Also at the time of this incident, Charles Shields was on Felony Probation for a Prior Aggravated Assault Offense.

No charges have been made against Queneshia Shields at this time. Police say this was in self-defense.
