Man Shoots Himself In Knee While Trying To Defend Against Man Who Opened Fire

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS — A man is recovering in the hospital after police say he shot himself in the knee while trying to defend himself against another man with a gun.

Police said two men were arguing at another location when the victim said the other man opened fire on him. He said when he tried to pull out his own gun to protect himself, he accidentally shot himself in the knee.

The man is then said to have hopped to his car and drove home, calling police and waiting for an ambulance to take him to the hospital.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the other man was found or if charges are pending.

I feel like a broken record, but it must be said again: Whenever possible, avoid confrontation and if you’re stuck, do what you can to de-escalate the situation. You simply don’t know what the other person is capable of, or what they’re thinking.

In this case, they were thinking about shooting, and did just that.

Furthermore, practicing your draw and overall handling of firearms is a must and if you can seek it out, find training that incorporates stress into the training itself.

The last thing you want to happen in a gun fight is to shoot yourself.
