DURHAM, NORTH CAROLINA — Three people were shot at Southpoint Mall, including a 10-year-old, who was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

One person was reportedly detained.

The incident occurred around 3:20pm local time, during the busiest shopping day of

Off-duty police were inside the mall at the time and quickly called for backup.

Police say the shooting was between two groups of people who knew each other, which likely translates to gang activity, because who else shoots at people they know in the mall?

Police evacuated the mall, and people flooded outside, afraid of an active shooter scenario.

Video showed shoppers running for safety, in what proved to be a scary situation.

Police have multiple persons of interest, and they are hopeful they will be able to find at least a few of them.
