Home Intruder Fatally Shot By Homeowner, Who Shoots His Own Hand During Defensive Encounter

ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI – A homeowner fatally shot a home intruder late Monday evening, according to police. The home invasion happened around 11:40 p.m. in the 4500 block of Alcott Avenue.

Officials say the intruder was found near the home’s entrance suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and the homeowner had a gunshot wound to his hand which was believed to be accidentally self-inflicted during the defensive shooting.

Both the homeowner and the intruder were transported to a local hospital by police.  The intruder, who died from his wounds, has been identified by police as 58-year-old Michael Norman. Charges of second-degree murder and armed criminal action citing self-defense were refused by the Circuit Attorney’s Office.
