Woman Fatally Shoots Ex-Boyfriend In Apparent Self-Defense During Assault Inside Her Apartment

LUBBOCK, TEXAS – The last day of March proved to be the last day of life for a man who was fatally shot by his ex-girlfriend after he kicked in the front door of her apartment and assaulted her. Police were called around 3:45 p.m. for a domestic disturbance at River Oaks Villa Apartments, located at 1303 65th Drive.

The caller, 26-year-old Selena Carrion, told dispatchers that her ex-boyfriend, 26-year-old Leroy Hammond-Williams, assaulted her, and that she had shot him. Arriving officers found the male suspect dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

Lubbock’s Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit is investigating the shooting and believe that Hammond-Williams was moving out of the residence when he punched Carrion in the face, drawing blood from her nose. At that point, Carrion called 911 and followed Hammond-Williams out of the residence to get the license plate information from his vehicle.

A short time afterward, Hammond-Williams returned to the residence and kicked the front door open. Fearing that he would assault her again, Carrion armed herself with her pistol. As she was going up the stairs, he grabbed her by the leg. She then turned and fatally shot him in the head.

No arrests or charges have been filed, and the case remains under investigation.
