Woman Shot And Killed After Allegedly Spitting At Another Woman Over Parking Lot Right Of Way

IRMO, SOUTH CAROLINA — A woman was shot and killed in South Carolina on Valentine’s Day following a dispute over the right of way in a Kroger supermarket parking lot, according to reports.

Alexandria Cress Borys, 26, was shot and killed following a heated argument that allegedly involved Borys spitting at her suspected murderer, Christina Harrison, who then shot her in the back of the head, Irmo Police Chief Bobby Dale said according to Fox 13.

“According to witnesses, the two exchanged some words and that’s around the time Borys spit at Harrison,” Dale wrote in an email according to Fox 13. “Borys turned away and was simultaneously shot by Harrison.”

Borys was loading groceries into her car at the time, and Harrison was in a vehicle. Harrison fled the scene, according to reports, but did eventually turn herself in to law enforcement.

Harrison has been charged with murder, unlawfully carrying a pistol, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to Fox 13. She had no known criminal history.

Borys’s two infant children were in the car at the time of the shooting.

It’s insanity.

“Unfortunately, this is a situation where tempers flared, and someone let anger get the best of them. One rash decision has impacted the lives of two families and countless others who witnessed this tragic event.” Dale said in a statement according to Fox 13.

“Senseless is the only word I can think of to describe what happened today.”

Let’s take a moment to appreciate how completely unnecessary this course of action was.

There’s no reason this should have happened. There’s no reason to spit at someone because of a right of way dispute, on the assumption that actually happened. There’s exponentially less reason to then respond with deadly force.

The easiest way to win a fight like this is to not have it. If crazy walks up to you and you can then avoid it, that’s exactly what you do.

When it comes to confrontation with others, always seek the opportunity to deescalate and disengage unless it’s absolutely necessary to stand your ground.

It’s just not worth it. This is so tragic.
