FL Home Explodes After Homeowner Was Reloading Ammo, 10K Rounds And 100 lbs. Of Black Powder Up In Smoke, 2 Severely Injured

Published

VENICE, FLORIDA — A man and another person are in the hospital after suffering severe burns after an explosion while loading ammunition. Firefighters said that ammo could be heard popping off, and around 10,000 rounds and another 100 pounds of black powder helped to feed the flames.

Other flammable materials were found at the home as well.

Investigators said they also found tanks filled with oxygen and acetylene — both of which are highly flammable.

Firefighters said the two people in the home were severely burned during the fire. Their conditions were not released Friday.

A determination as to what caused the fire is not yet known. Carelessness could have been a factor, or it could have been a random unfortunate series of events that made things go boom.

Hopefully, the two injured are able to recover as fully as possible.

As a reminder, when reloading your own ammo, make certain that no open flames are in the area, or anything else that could pose a fire hazard.
