Man Wounded After Gun Fight With Armed Thug On The Street

WACO, TX — A robber sent one man to a hospital after shooting him in a gunfight and making a quick getaway.

As KWTX reports:

The robber, who was armed with a handgun, approached the victim at around 12:50 a.m. Tuesday near the Glen Oaks apartments in the 5100 block of Sanger and demanded money. “The victim pulled his gun and began shooting at the suspect,” Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.

“The suspect then shot the victim striking him in the right leg.” The robber ran to the south. The victim, who was not immediately identified, was taken to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center.

Now, let’s see what we can learn, here.

Sometimes, the gunfight with the bad guy does not end our way.

Sometimes, whether it’s because of a lack of steadiness due to adrenaline, or what have you, all the shots fired by the armed citizen are a miss.

That is why you train.

If you can find the right instructor, and if you can find the time, you really want to get some solid training for defense scenarios just like this one. It’s not so you can be Wyatt Earp (or Val Kilmer’s take on Doc Holiday), it’s so that if and when the time comes that you need to defend yourself or your loved ones, you do so with excellence.

Now, we don’t know whether the attacker in this scenario was wounded — he ran off. However, the threat was not neutralized, and that is sufficient to warrant additional training and preparation, although we certainly would never wish another robbery on him, and those odds are pretty low.

Stay prepared, folks — it’s not a safe world out there.
