The father of the gunman who killed 9 and injured 9 others Thursday spoke with reporters on his frustration with the current gun laws in the country. However, the father throws every gun owner in America into the same category as his own son: a cold-blooded killer.
Expressing dismay with the lack of gun-control legislation following previous mass shootings, Mr. Mercer called for the authorities to enact tougher restrictions. ”It has to change,” he said. “How can it not? Even people that believe in the right to bear arms, what right do you have to take people’s lives? That’s what guns are, for killers.”
What did I just read? He goes on to say this…
“Obviously, someone who goes and kills nine people has to have some kind of issue,” he said.
In one breath, he admits that his son had some serious issues going on, and in another he states that guns are for killers. I’m starting to see where the gunman’s genes come from.
Maybe that’s insensitive of me to make that statement. After all, he didn’t make his son do what he did and his family is surely going through a difficult time. But something here has to give. How anyone could make such a statement as the one we see in bold above is beyond my level of comprehension.
To the father, I say this: I’m a law-abiding gun owner in part to protect myself against people like your son. He is part of the reason that I carry a firearm.
