Inmate Escapes, Goes On Robbery Spree, Only Thing That Stops Him Is A Legally Armed Citizen

Zachary Bretzel, a 20-year-old who escaped custody on December 19th, went on to rob a Walgreens just two days after.

Bretzel approached the cashier at Walgreens and asked for a carton of cigarettes and to speak with the manager. While the manager was on the way, Bretzel passed a note to the cashier that demanded money and said that he was armed with a .22 pistol. He ended up leaving with cigarettes and money out of the register.

Later on that day, Bretzel felt inclined to rob a Steak and Potato restaurant and handed the clerk a note saying “give me all the cash in the drawer or I will shoot you.”

The clerk reached under the counter and pulled out a 9mm Taurus pistol and pointed it at Bretzel’s face. Not surprisingly, Bretzel took off out the door as fast as he could.

Employees of the restaurant called police and they were able to capture Bretzel after a brief foot chase.

Bretzel faces numerous charges, including armed robbery, attempted armed robbery, escape, and misdemeanor repeat bail jumping.
