One of the gun-friendliest states in the Country is soon going to exceed 1 million licensed concealed carriers. From December 2016 through February 2016, DPS is said to have received 136,000 applications for concealed carry. That number during the same period last year: just 57,000 applications.
The large uptick is due to a number of recent events, including the attacks in San Bernardino, President Obama’s continued push for more gun control, and the overall shift of Americans looking to protect themselves at all times.
CBS-DFW spoke with CHL Licensed Instructor Michael Cargill, who owns Central Texas Gun Works, to hear his thoughts on the subject.
“Then you have the new law that went into effect January the first (Open Carry)…all of that plays into it, and that’s why we’re seeing numbers. For the first time the State of Texas will actually go over one million licensed holders,” says Cargill.
That’s a lot of concealed carriers for criminals to worry about. It’s onward and upward for concealed carry.
