In the wake of the attacks in Chattanooga, Governor Scott has issued an Executive Order that expedites all Florida concealed carry permits and firearm license apps for active military and veterans. The statement on the matter is as follows:
Special Note from Commissioner Putnam to Military Members and Veterans
In the wake of the devastating tragedy in Chattanooga that claimed the lives of five service members and following Governor Scott’s Executive Order, we will expedite all Florida Concealed Weapon or Firearm License applications submitted by active military members and veterans. We will begin this process immediately. Our goal is to issue licenses to qualified applicants as quickly as possible.
Active military personnel who want to apply for a Florida Concealed Weapon or Firearm License should include a copy of their Common Access Card or other form of official military identification with their applications when they submit them to the department. We can also accept a copy of service members’ current orders as proof of active duty status. Honorably discharged veterans should submit a copy of their DD 214 long form with their applications.
We are grateful for our military members’ and veterans’ service to our country, and we will do whatever we can to support them.
Adam Putnam
Florida Commissioner of Agriculture
