Fatal Columbia Shooting Deemed Self-Defense Where Woman Was Followed Home And Assaulted

COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA — The Richland County Sheriff’s Department concluded that a fatal shooting incident, where one man was killed, was a case of justified self-defense.

On Sunday, deputies arrived at a scene in the 200 block of Wynn Way, finding a man with a fatal gunshot wound. The man, identified as 41-year-old Antwan Ashley from Columbia by Coroner Naida Rutherford, died at the location. A woman involved in the incident was initially detained.

Investigations revealed that Ashley had followed the woman to her home and aggressively confronted her, leading to a physical altercation where he tried to hit her. In response, the woman shot Ashley, which the deputies later deemed an act of self-defense.

Consequently, no charges were filed against the woman.
