CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — During a Friday night game between the White Sox and the Oakland Athletics at Guaranteed Rate Field, two women were injured in a shooting incident, Chicago police reported. One woman, aged 42, was shot in the leg and is now in fair condition at the University of Chicago hospital. Another, 26 years old, had a minor wound on her abdomen and declined medical attention.
Footage from the game revealed some fans noticing the incident and signaling for help, specifically in section 161 near the left field. Tom Miller, a witness, stated that the shooting occurred just two rows in front of him, and he saw a woman bleeding from her leg. He estimated that at least two, possibly three, individuals were injured before security intervened and relocated attendees.
The White Sox made an official statement, mentioning the uncertainty regarding whether the shooting happened inside or outside the ballpark. They confirmed that no altercations were involved. Although some attendees speculated that the shooting began after a dispute between two men, the police have not validated this claim.

Despite the incident, the game proceeded without interruption. However, the subsequent concert featuring Vanilla Ice and Tone Loc was abruptly canceled, leading to frustration among fans. The announcement cited “technical difficulties” as the cause, prompting significant discontent among attendees. Some even suggested storming the field and began chanting in protest.
The White Sox stated that the game scheduled for Saturday would proceed as planned, emphasizing their commitment to ensuring safety during games. They also mentioned that they would refrain from divulging specific security measures to maintain their effectiveness.
