Man Not Charged In Nightclub Shooting After It Was Determined To Be Self-Defense

WICHITA, KANSAS — Brandon Young, initially arrested for alleged gunfire at City Nightz nightclub in Wichita’s Old Town district on July 2, will not face charges and is scheduled for release from jail on Thursday.

District Attorney for Sedgwick County, Marc Bennett, stated that investigations suggest Young acted in self-defense against two other shooters in the club. The decision came after careful scrutiny of the club’s surveillance video.

Although Young was previously held on suspicion of aggravated battery after the event injured nine people and caused two others to be trampled, the case remains open for further forensic analysis.

Meanwhile, the Wichita Police Department has temporarily suspended the nightclub’s operations for 30 days starting Monday.
