Do You Carry On Vacation? Intruder At Rental Home Shot By Vacationer Inside

SARASOTA, FLORIDA — An apparent self-defense shooting happened in the early hours of Sunday in Sarasota’s Gulf Gate community, seemingly during a home invasion at a rental property.

The incident occurred at roughly 2:15 a.m. on Sunday when a vacationing family was roused from their sleep in their rental property due to suspected break-in activity within the home’s enclosed lanai. The address is identified as being in the 6500 range of Colonial Drive in Sarasota County.

Feeling endangered, one of the occupants of the house proceeded to shoot the intruder.

As of now, the intruder is alive but in critical condition at a local hospital.

The case is presently under investigation by the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.
