Would-Be Smoke Shop Burglar Shot In Legs By Employee

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — A Lincoln Park smoke shop employee thwarted a burglary attempt on Sunday evening by shooting an 18-year-old intruder in the legs.

Chicago police responded to reports of a shooting around 11:45 p.m. on North Talman and discovered the injured suspect, who initially claimed he was shot from a black car, according to CWB Chicago.

However, a subsequent 911 call about a burglary led police to establish that the smoke shop employee had fired at the teenager attempting to enter the business through the back door. Authorities found a bicycle in the alley behind Big Lou’s Tobacco Shop, where the incident occurred.

The injured suspect was transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in fair condition and is now in police custody as the investigation continues.
