MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA — Miami Beach Police have released new details about a shooting that took place over the weekend before last, leaving one man dead and another injured.

The incident occurred on Friday night in South Beach’s entertainment district, with the victim identified as 21-year-old Idahosa Osagie, according to WSVN.

The Miami Beach Police Department has now reportedly said that they believe the incident could have been carried out in self-defense.

The alleged shooter, 23-year-old Lawarren Meadows, was taken into custody but not arrested, and has since claimed that he acted in self-defense.

Meadows was handcuffed and taken in for questioning, during which he made “spontaneous” statements about someone pulling a gun on him, forcing him to defend himself, according to police.

The case was still under review by Miami Beach Police and the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office at the time of WSVN’s report.

The shooting prompted city officials to enforce a curfew from midnight to 6 a.m., early Monday morning, following a second shooting near Ocean Drive and 10th Street.

Meanwhile, the Miami Beach Fraternal Order of Police has called for a midnight curfew to be enforced during spring break and Memorial Day weekends next year.

For those considering Miami Beach as a vacation destination for spring break or Memorial Day weekend, it may be time to reconsider your options.
