BURKE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA — Early Friday morning, a man shot and killed an armed intruder at his home.

According to police, the intruder apparently broke into the home, got a hold of a gun inside, pointed the gun at the homeowner, who then immediately responded by drawing and firing at the intruder with another gun that he had on him at the time.

37-year-old Howard Gene Cook was found at the scene, deceased from gunshot wounds by arriving deputies.

As of now, no charges have been filed against the resident, pending an ongoing investigation.
